Pequot seeks replacement school staff, increases incentives

PEQUOT LAKES – The Pequot Lakes School District hopes to attract more substitute teachers through new incentives.

Substitute teachers at Pequot Lakes are currently paid $ 125 per day. But thanks to action taken by the school board on Monday, October 18, substitute teachers will now earn an additional $ 100 for five full replacement days in the district for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.

Superintendent Kurt Stumpf said in a press release that substitutes, including substitute teachers, play a vital role in providing a high quality education and experience for students. The school district saw about 25% of all substitute teacher positions unfilled in the first two months of the school year.

The school district will host a substitute registration night from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on November 8 at the middle school / high school media center. Those interested in replacement positions are welcome. Replacements are needed in education, paraprofessionals, custody, transport and catering. School administrators will be available to answer questions and Teachers on Call, the company that oversees substitutes, will be on hand to assist with registration.
