PEQUOT LAKES – The Pequot Lakes School District hopes to attract more substitute teachers through new incentives.
Substitute teachers at Pequot Lakes are currently paid $ 125 per day. But thanks to action taken by the school board on Monday, October 18, substitute teachers will now earn an additional $ 100 for five full replacement days in the district for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.
Superintendent Kurt Stumpf said in a press release that substitutes, including substitute teachers, play a vital role in providing a high quality education and experience for students. The school district saw about 25% of all substitute teacher positions unfilled in the first two months of the school year.
The school district will host a substitute registration night from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on November 8 at the middle school / high school media center. Those interested in replacement positions are welcome. Replacements are needed in education, paraprofessionals, custody, transport and catering. School administrators will be available to answer questions and Teachers on Call, the company that oversees substitutes, will be on hand to assist with registration.
According to the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, an applicant for short-term replacement licensing must have at least a bachelor’s degree. Applicants from Minnesota who have completed teaching students as part of a teacher preparation program but do not yet have a bachelor’s degree may apply. The student’s teaching grade must be posted on the transcripts.
Instead of a bachelor’s degree, a candidate may provide proof of five years of work experience, an associate’s degree, or professional certification from an approved certification body that is directly aligned with a field of study. ‘authorization of a career and a technical or professional course. The short call substitution license is valid for three years, expires on June 30 of the year of expiration, and can be renewed an unlimited number of times.
