Lecker named interim editor, market leader Jackson as Miller retires


Editor-in-Chief Kelly Lecker has been appointed Interim Editor of The Dispatch, and Eugene Jackson, Ohio Vice President of Sales and Marketing for LocalIQ and USA Today Network, will be the market leader in Dispatch Operations in Columbus after Alan D. Miller retired on Monday.

Miller, 62, who announced his retirement in September, will be leaving the newspaper Monday after 37 years in the newsroom, and will take a new position as a journalism professor at Denison University. He was a journalist and editor at various levels before becoming editor in 2015. In that capacity, he was also a market leader in Columbus and regional editor for the 21 newsrooms of USA Today Network in Ohio. .

Lecker, 49, worked in the newsroom at The Dispatch for almost 18 years as a reporter and editor. She was appointed editor-in-chief in 2020.

Lecker is a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point graduate who began her career as a journalist in 1994 at the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She also worked as a journalist and editor at The Blade in Toledo.

She started with The Dispatch in 2004 as a reporter covering Southeast Ohio. As a journalist, she has won several journalism awards for her work on immigration issues, agriculture and breaking news. And as an editor, she has helped run a newsroom that has won numerous state and national awards, including the Best Ohio Newspaper for Eight Years in a Row by the Associated Press Media Editors. Association.

Lecker has held various editorial positions with The Dispatch including Deputy Editor, Religious Editor, Digital News Editor, Subway Editor, and Deputy Editor. She is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Columbus.

She grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm on Cheese Factory Road and now lives in the German village with her dog, Fezzik.

Jackson, 41, has 17 years of media experience in a variety of roles, including executive roles. Prior to coming to Columbus in 2021, Jackson was Senior Sales Manager and Regional Market Leader for five USA Today markets in Illinois.

Prior to working in Illinois, Jackson was senior vice president of advertising and marketing in the Washington, DC area. And earlier, he was regional president and publisher of the Rapid City Journal in South Dakota and the Casper Star Tribune in Wyoming. He was also president and publisher of the Daily Journal in Missouri and director of advertising for the Connecticut Post.

A Virginia Tech graduate, Jackson began his career with the Roanoke Times in Virginia, where he held various advertising executive roles.

Jackson and his wife Holly have three children, Chloe, Gavin and Parker.
