Even if the Amer. Teachers’ Federation criticizes Minnesota graduation standards, Brainerd School District happy with grades. Asst. Supt. Gary Phillips said each state in the union would like to do as well as Minnesota, and Brainerd builds its demands from those of the state.

(Pictured) Kyle Smith goes up for two of his 26 points as the highly anticipated game between Rocori, ranked No. 1 in Class A, and the 10 in Class AAand -The ranked Warriors didn’t disappoint with the 2,000 fans filling Brainerd’s gymnasium. Brainerd won 63-53 to hand Rocori his first conference loss and tie them at 5-1.
40 years ago (1982)
In November 1980, when BN Railroad announced a merger, they promised “greater job security” and 200 new jobs. In reality, the clerk’s department. now has 48 employees, after 60 redundancies; the “store” has only 62, including 82 licensees. Overall, half of the railroad store employees left.
60 Years Ago (1962)
A family in the county today is impressed with how neighbors have stepped up to help them. The Elwyn Hendricks family, with six children, received full sets of clothing and more than $500 in cash after a fire leveled their home this month. A covered wagon has been moved to their farm and a team of volunteers is turning it into a temporary home.
80 years ago (1942)
Keep this copy of the dispatch when you have finished reading it. There are no more old papers. Save newspapers, magazines and other papers and turn them into money for the Red Cross. All waste paper is collected and sold, with proceeds going to the Red Cross war effort.
100 years ago (1922)
Sometimes the biggest differences in state temperature readings are just eight miles apart. Brainerd fell to 31 below last night, but Gull Lake Dam was 39 below. At 8 a.m. today, Brainerd was 20 below zero, but the dam was still in the Arctic with 36 below. A local coal plant was 50 orders behind with every shift and every truck in service.
