Cambodia explores CBDC-type Bakong cross-border transactions

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) continues to make progress with its digital currency-like central bank initiative known as Bakong, disclosing several milestones of the project.

Chea Serey, Managing Director of NBC and Head of the Bakong Project noted in an interview on Wednesday with The that Bakong’s e-wallet reached 200,000 users in June, double from three months earlier. Based on blockchain technology, the Bakong payment and money transfer service has been originally launched by NBC in October 2020.
